West Ham to play leapfrog

West Ham will be aiming to leapfrog joint Championship leaders Southampton when they host relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest at the Boleyn Ground on Saturday afternoon. The Hammers are level on points with Southampton but have an inferior goal difference to the south coast team by 4 goals, but is something that could be fixed quite easily come 4.45pm. West Ham have lost just once in their last 5 league matches which was a 1-2 reverse at a resurgent Derby County, but aside from that they’ve beaten Barnsley, Coventry City and Portsmouth along with grabbing a point at St Andrews against Birmingham City. West Ham’s home form stands at 7-2-3 20/12, and have lost just once in their last seven on home turf with a surprising 1-2 defeat at the hands of Burnley. Nevertheless, they are hard to beat at home even for a top six side or teams on the fringes of the play-off positions, let alone a side who are attempting to stave off relegation. West Ham also have plenty of options in attack with the likes of striker Carlton Cole (8 goals, 2 assists), talismanic midfielder Kevin Nolan (6 goals), former MK Dons forward Sam Baldock (5 goals), along with creativity from Frenchman Julien Faubert 94 assists) and Matthew Taylor (1 goal, 6 assists).

Un-Tricky Trees

Nottingham Forest travel to east London on the back of a 0-4 hiding at east midlands rivals Leicester City in their midweek FA Cup third round replay which must surely have hurt them and their fans. Forest currently sit one place and two points adrift of safety and Millwall, and a trip to a West Ham side with promotion back up to the Premiership in their sights can’t be a match they are looking forward to. On the road Forest’s away record stands at 4-1-7 10/18, but have won just once in their last five away from home which was last weekend’s win at Ipswich Town. Leading scorer is Marcus Tudgay (5 goals), along with attacking midfielder Lewis McGugan (2 goals, 1 assist) and midfielder Andy Reid (1 goal, 3 assists) who has provided the bulk of their ammunition of sorts.

West Ham to ease

Quite simply though, West Ham should win this one quite comfortably on home turf and I’ll go for a scoreline of 2-0 and West Ham to cover the -1 asian handicap.
