South America World Cup Qualifier match preview: Uruguay - Chile

Strong at home but missing some players

Uruguay is a strong and confident team when playing at the Centenario Stadium. For World Cup Qualifiers, they´ve never lost against Chile playing as hosts, with 10 victories and only 2 draws. Unfortunately, for this match, Diego Forlán, Walter Gargano, Alvaro Fernandez, Jorge Fucile and Abel Hernandez are injured, and Maxi Pereira is suspended. Coach Oscar Tabárez anticipated that the probable formation would be: Muslera; Cáceres, Godín, Lugano, A.Pereira; González, Arévalos, Pérez, Ramírez; Cavani and Luis Suarez. In spite of the injuries, the team looks pretty strong and top class.

Chile with huge internal problems

On Tuesday night, 5 regular players arrived drunk at the team concentration. Due to this shameless act, coach Claudio Borghi decided to exclude Jorge Valdivia, Jean Beausejour, Carlos Carmona, Gonzalo Jara and Arturo Vidal. All of them regular players and probably meant to be part of the starting formation. It´s a fact that this episode is already spoiling the team´s atmosphere and in the worst moment: when you visit Uruguay, you must be at your 100%, otherwise, you risk to be humiliated. Chile is far away from their top form, with internal problems, missing players and a negative statistic when visiting Centenario Stadium.

To continue the tradition

Normally I wouldn´t recommend Uruguay for a win without 5 regular players. But Chile seems to be a disaster. With one of the worst defenses of the Qualifier (6 goals in 2 matches), 5 missing players, a bad internal atmosphere and the top star player Alexis Sánchez just returning to regular matches after a serious injury, (he still can´t play a complete match) I can´t see Uruguay loosing points. In fact, with Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani they should be able to score at least a couple of times, meanwhile their defense remains pretty strong with Godín, Lugano and Cáceres. Uruguay wins…and I hate myself because I´m Chilean…
