Tranmere improving

17th placed Tranmere Rovers take on second from bottom Rochdale at their Prenton Park ground on Tuesday night as they look to put some daylight between themselves and the danger of relegation. Tranmere have improved at home in recent matches with two draws against Colchester United and eighth placed Brentford, along with a 2-0 win over Bury which has seen Les Parry’s side avoid immediate relegation worries. Rovers’ home record actually isn’t that bad which reads 5-5-3 13/10, and have lost just twice at home in their last nine matches which was at the hands of promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons. Tranmere’s leading scorer is Joss Labadie (4 goals, 1 assist), while others have chipped in such as forward Mustafa Tiryaki (3 goals), Lucas Akins (3 goals, 4 assists), Robbie Weir (3 goals, 2 assists) and Jose Baxter (3 goals, 3 assists).

Rochdale no wins last seven

Rochdale travel to the Wirral in search of their first win in seven matches, and based on their current form, they may have to wait to reverse their losing trend; just one win overall in their last fourteen matches, and just one win in their last eight on the road which was a 1-0 win at Preston North End back in November. Dale have failed to score in their last three away matches with losses at Sheffield United 0-3 and Hartlepool United 0-2 along with a 0-0 draw at Walsall. Their overall away record stands at 2-2-8 10/24, with only four other teams conceding more goals. Scoring goals on the road have been a problem for Rochdale and in all, have failed to score on six occasions. Midfielder Ashley Grimes (5 goals, 2 assists) leads the way and is supported by Gary Jones (4 goals, 2 assists) while Brett Ormerod has joined on loan and scored in Rochdale’s home thrashing at the weekend inflicted by Stevenage.

Rovers to edge out Dale

Tranmere have picked up at home recently and a 1-5 humiliation at home to Stevenage at the weekend will have seriously dented Rochdale’s confidence; I’ll have to go for a home win here for Tranmere 2-1 as a possible scoreline.
