Flawless run

Spain have had a flawless run to the semi-finals, as they were very dominant in all games, never scoring less than four: 4-2 against Slovenia and 4-1 vs Ukraine in the group-stage and an 8-3 victory over Romania in the quarter-finals. Spain boasts the tournament`s topscorer: Torras (5 goals) and also the player with the most assists, Alemao (5 assists).

Quality side

Italy entered their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Turkey, but they were held by Russia in the second game (2-2) and they finished the group as runners-up. However, they showed their quality in the quarter-finals against Portugal, as they were deserved winners over Ricardinho`s side (3-1). Another impressive quality of this Italian side is their mentality and their knowledge of playing for the result. Against Turkey, they came from behind to win 3-1, while against Russia, Italy levelled from two down and the impression is that the Azzuri can win a game even if they don`t play exceptional.

Arch rivals

The rivalry between Spain and Italy at futsal is legendary, as these are two of the strongest teams in Europe. Spain have won two consecutive World Championships and five EURO titles, while the Italians are European champions in 2003 and came as runners-up in 2004 (World Cup) and 2007 (EURO). Those finals were lost precisely against Spain, as well as the 2008 World Cup semi-final. However, Italy were the last team to beat La Furia Roja competitively in regular time, in the EURO 2005 group stage. Italy is a very dangerous opponent, however, I feel that Spain`s supremacy will continue. They`ve been impressive so far, they have better individuals and they hold the upper edge over Italy in recent head-to-heads.
