Bundesliga match preview: Schalke - Mainz

Flying high

Schalke surprised everyone with their recent performances and the fact that they are currently on third position with real chances for grabbing the title. They have entered this round in third position with same number of points as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Unfortunately for them, Dortmund won against Nurnberg 2-0 and now Schalke is in must win situation if they want to remain the chase for league leaders. Team of coach Stevens is doing great, they have five wins in a row, two of those were away from home and all of them were quite convincing. In last round, they demolished Koln 4-1 away from home and now they will try to gain sixth win in a row in front of their own fans, at Weltins-Arena. Schalke will miss Fahrmann, Holtby, Jones and Kluge but there are still a lot of quality players as Raul, Farfan, Obasi and Huntelaar are ready to start.

Still in danger

After two consecutive defeats away against Moenchengladbach and Leverkusen, Mainz managed to gain three points in last round. They have defeated last placed Freiburg and now they can breath a bit easier, but there is no place for some relaxed play as they are just three points away from relegation zone. So, a defeat at Weltins-Arena could bring them in big troubles. Mainz will miss a lot of players for this match as Allagui, Risse, Svensson, Schonheim, Gopko and Bell are all unavailable. Although they have only one win away from home, Mainz scored 12 and conceded 15 goals which is not so bad when compared to their wins account. Actually, they have scored five goals in last two matches and they hope they will manage to repeat their latest visit to Schalke when they won 3-1.

At least three goals

Once again, I am going for goals. Hosts are in great form, and what’s more they will be playing in front of their own fans. Both teams produced excellent displays in last round and I see no reason why this match wouldn’t bring us at least three goals. Excellent attackers on both sides are promising a great game. Over 2.5 goals with medium-high stakes.
