They lack a real puncher

Third in the Romanian table, Rapid start their preparation camp with a friendly against Norwegian side Brann. No big movements on the transfer market so far, as sub keeper Straton, holding midfielder Apostol and striker Cassio (none of them important) have left the team, while defensive midfielder Pavlovic and striker Ionita are the new names. Ionita marks his come-back at Rapid (loaned) after an unhappy experience at Koln, but the feeling is that this won`t resolve Rapid`s lack of efficiency in attack, as Ionita have played only few minutes for the Germans and is far away from the top scorer he was in 2010.

First serious test

Brann have not played a competitive game since the end of November, when they ended the 2011 Tippeligaen season on 4th position and they were the Cup runners-up. They already played 2 friendlies, but they used many fringe players, so this is their first serious test of the year. Offensive star player Diego Guastavinos has ended his contract, while two defenders and two midfielders are the new signings.

Underish game

I don`t expect a goals fest here, as the players lacks the match fitness and probably the game will have a slow tempo. Also, Rapid`s coach, Razvan Lucescu is always cautious and a defensive-minded coach, by definition, while the Romanians lack a real puncher, as their topscorer is 34 years old Pancu. Brann also lost their star offensive player and will field a sole striker in a 4-2-3-1 module.
