Flying high

OM had a disastrous start of the season, sitting at the wrong end of the table after the opening 6 rounds, but they quickly bounced back and find the form, picking up 28 points from the remaining 13 games before the winter break. Deschamps` side is now on 7th and a victory over Lille would move them just 2 points behind Les Dogues. Marseille came into the second half of the season at the back off two convincing Cup wins: 5-0 against amateur side Red Star in the French Cup and 3-0 at Caen into the Coupe de la Ligue.

Disappointing defeat

The defending champions are sitting on third place on the rankings, 7 points behind free-spending PSG and 4 points behind Montpelier, however, they impressed with their 17-game unbeaten run in the league (9 wins and 9 draws), a new club record. Only surprise package Montpellier managed to defeat Lille, but Rudi Garcia`s lads are paying the price for the big number of draws. The guests have trashed Chantilly in the French Cup (6-0), but they were in the Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final with Lyon. Lille had a great chance to advance, as Joe Cole opened the scoreline (27th minute) and Lyon were reduced to ten men with barely ten minutes on the clock. However, they failed to break down Lyon`s 10 men, while they conceded twice, so they are out of the competition.

Another goals fest?

The fixtures between Marseille and Lille have a very strong tradition for Overs, as 9 of the last 10 head-to-heads ended with at least 3 goals, including a 5-4 thriller in the Super Cup at the beginning of the season and a 3-2 win for Lille in the reverse fixture from the first half of the season.
