They sacked the coach

Attilio Tesser took charge at Novara in 2009 and enjoyed immediate success, guiding the team to back-to-back promotions into Serie A for the first time in 55 years. They also enjoyed a good start to the season, including a 3-1 win against Inter in September, but then they endured a poor run of form, going 9 games without a win and losing 4 league games in a row, with a single goal scored and 11 conceded. As a consequence, Tesser has been sacked and replaced with Emiliano Mondonico, who has not coached in the top flight since being sacked by Fiorentina in 2004.

Looking to improve their away record

The Flying Donkeys are having a calm season, sitting on 13th place in the table, 8 points shy off the relegation zone. They had mixed results in 2012, alternating defeats against the Roma duo (0-2 at Olimpico, 0-3 at home vs Lazio) and in the first leg of the Cup against Siena (0-1), with wins at Udine in the Cup, at home with Palermo and an unlucky draw at Lecce (they conceded in the last minute). They are very strong at their home turf (5W 3D 2L, 9-7 the scoreline), but they should improve their away record (1W 3D 6L).

Good odds on Chievo

The bookies have anticipated a very balanced game here, however, I think that the value is on the guests, despite their poor away record. However, they had better performances on the road lately, winning at Udinese and being close to a win in Lecce (they had a 2 goals lead), while Novara have only won 2 games all season. Furthermore, they have the edge in the recent mutual matches, as Chivo trashed Novara in the Coppa Italia last season (3-0) and they were the better side in the reverse fixture (2-0 lead, they were leveled 4 minutes before the final whistle).
