Champions League (Europe) match preview: Milan - Arsenal

Concede often lately

Milan`s defense is not doing so well lately. The team have conceded at least one goal in six of their last nine games in all competitions. Also in the group stage of the Champions League Milan conceded in four of their six games (eight goals in six games). Allegri have a lot of problems with missing players right now. Pato (10/1), Aquilani (15/1), Cassano (9/2) and Yepes (6/1) are all out, while Nesta (11/1), Abbiati (17/0) and Abate (18/0) are questionable.

Bad defense away from home

Arsenal won three of their last four games in all competitions (3-1-0) and will go to Milan with a lot of confidence before this very important first leg between the two team. But still Arsene Venger`s men are not doing so well away from home this season and against an attacking team like Milan the chance for them to keep a clean sheet is very small. Arsenal have conceded at least one goal in 26 of their last 30 games away from home in all competitions, which is too much for a team as ambitious as the Gunnners. Venger have a lot of problems exactly with the defense, so this is another reason why I think Milan will score at least one goal on Tuesday. Jenkinson, Santos, Wilshere and Diaby are all out, while Gibbs is questionable.

Both teams will score

Both teams are playing attacking football and will try to score a goal in this first leg. Milan will do everything they can not to repeat the games against the Gunners in 2008, when the Rossoneri didn`t manage to score in both games and got eliminated. But the team also had conceded at least one goal in nine of their last twelve home Champions League games (only Viktoria Plzeň, Bate and Auxerre didn`t manage to score at "San Siro"). Arsenal on other hand had managed to score in 18 of their last 20 games in the Champions League.
