Need advantage before second leg

Lyon is among the teams, that plays in the elimination round every year. Lyon managed to get at least to the 1/8 finals of the Champions League nine years in a row now. Even though they finished second in their group and according to the rules they had to play with a team that won their group stage, they got a little it of luck, drawing with Apoel. Now everything is in their hands and if they don`t manage to qualify to the next round it would be a surprise. At "Stad de Gerland" Lyon is feeling really comfortable and the defeat against Caen was their first one in six games (5-1-0 before that). In this game against Caen (1:2) it really looked like that the players are thinking more about the game against Apoel on Tuesday. Dejan Lovren (14/0) is the only big miss for this game

Big surprise

Apoel is the surprise of the tournament so far. The team not only managed to qualify for this round, but they even won their group stage, something that no one was thinking before the start of the tournament. Apoel draw all their away games in the group stage and also have just three wins (against teams like Skënderbeu Korçë, Slovan Bratislava and EB / Streymur) in fifteen games away from home in the Champion League (3-5-8).

Home win

Lyon have advantage over Apoel in all areas. The team has more quality, more experience in Europe and this game on Tuesday is going to be on their home ground. Lyon have only three defeats at home in the Champions League in their last seventeen games (9-5-3). And those defeat were against Real Madrid and against Bayern Munich (twice). The home team have more quality and will get the necessary result before the second leg.
