Asian Handicap (AH) is probably the most popular way of betting today. Most of you probably know that it originated in
1) Standard. The handicap is -1/+1, -2/+2, etc. For example, a match Manchester United-Porto and you want to bet on Manchester United -1. If the match ends 2-0 for MU, your bet is won. If it ends 0-0, you lose, just like with the regular, European handicap. But if it ends 1-0, you DON’T lose and the bet is VOID, while your stakes are returned to you. That’s the whole beauty of AH betting.
2) Half-ball. The handicap is -0.5/+0.5, -1.5/+1.5, etc. So, we take the same match, Manchester United-Porto and you bet on MU -0.5. It basically means you bet on the same thing as MU’s straight win, except sometimes you get a little better odds on AH than on the regular 1x2 offer, so make sure to always check the AH offer before betting on the 1x2 market. There is no draw here too, because if you bet on Porto +0.5 then in case of a draw you win because +0.5 is pretty much the same as X2 (or 1X in case the hosts are given a +0.5 AH).
3) Level-ball. This one is also not hard to understand and is practically the same thing as DNB (draw no bet) and that’s when you see just the names of the teams with no handicap or zero (0) next to them. So, logically, a draw would void any bets here. And in case you bet on Manchester United to win at level ball, and they record a win, you will cashout at the bookie but with a bit smaller odds than for the regular win as this bet is much safer since it covers the possibility of a draw, just like any AH bet after all.
4) Quarter-ball. The handicap is -0,-0.5/+0,+0.5 (or -0.25/+0.25), then we have -0.5,-1/+0.5,+1 (or -0.75/+0.75). The format in parenthesis is the more common way of putting it. Anyways, this just means that your bet is split in half, and that you actually have two bets with half of your stakes on -0 and -0.5 if you decide to go for Manchester United -0.25 for example. So if the match ends with MU’s win you win both bets, but if it ends in a draw you will lose just the -0.5 part while the -0 bet will be refunded. Reversely, if Porto loses and you bet on them +0.25, you would lose your both bets, while in a case of a draw, you will win the +0.5 part as we’ve previously learned, and get our stakes from +0 back. In case we bet on MU -0.75 and the game ends in a draw, we lose the whole stakes, and when MU wins by 1 goal exactly, we win the MU -0.5 bet, and have the MU -1 bet void, and so on.
