Match preview: Portsmouth - Bolton 2009-04-18 (England Premier)

Portsmouth are very close to relegating from Premier league, even though they’re 14th in the standings, first team below the “safe zone” is only 4 pts behind them. They’re in catastrophic shape, managing to only draw (2:2) against the last-placed team in Premiership West Bromwich after taking the initial lead. I think they don’t have too many chances against Bolton, even though they’re again playing at home at their Fratton Park. Portsmouth have a really quality squad and it’s a true miracle they are so lowly on the table. More-less 5 English national team regulars are in this squad. I’m sure Portsmouth will give their best to finally win tomorrow but I don’t think they will manage to fulfill their intentions.

Showed fighting spirit against Chelsea

Bolton are playing solid lately, they fought really hard against Chelsea in the last round, losing 4:3 at the end, even though they were down by 4:0 at one point. I think Bolton are in better shape than Portsmouth and that’s why I see them as bigger favs to come out as winners in this clash. Coach Megson has a solid team at his disposition with as many as 16 foreign players, out of whom the best ones are surely Swede Elmander and Pole Ebi Smolarek, who is on a loan from Racing Santander. They are expected to play a very good match this Saturday at Fratton Park.

The guest will try to sneak away the win

Although the bookies are suggesting that the home team is a favorite in this clash, I don’t think that anyone expects them to easily beat Bolton, especially cause they were even greater favs against the last-placed team in the previous round but barely managed to get one point. In my opinion, Bolton should be the more favored side in this clash after a great performance they put up in the 2nd half against Chelsea last week. My suggestion for this game is a straight away win as I believe they’re a stronger team in this clash and even though Portsmouth need to win as soon as possible, I think they’ll have to wait for some opportunity. I also believe there will be at least three or more goals in this clash considering the poor defensive lines on both sides.
