Match preview: Manchester_United - Everton 2009-04-19 (England FA Cup)

They want all five trophies this season

Manchester United is entering this match after a very disciplined and good game in the Champions league against Porto. After a disappointing play at Old Trafford it seemed like United would be eliminated from the most elite European competitions, but they seemed reborn in Portugal. United controlled the match from the start, and thanks to a fantastic long-distance shot by Ronaldo secured the semifinals against Arsenal. Their defense, who conceded 10 goals in the 4 matches before it, again seemed rock solid, mostly thanks to the return of Rio Ferdinand to the team. Ferdinand and Vidic will again have to live up to their task against the Everton’s attack, who’s given them lots of trouble earlier this season. Ferguson will probably change the team that played in Portugal, so it should be expected for Ben Foster, Rafael Da Silva and Carlos Tevez to start the match, while the golden boy from Italy, Federico Macheda, should get a chance sometime during the 2nd half. Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick will travel with the squad, but it’s not sure they’ll play since they’ve suffered minor injuries against Porto. Wes Brown played for their reserve squad on Monday after longer break, while Owen Hargreaves is still recovering from a knee injury.

A successful second part of the season

Everton’s team manager David Moyes will probably use the history to motivate his players against the Premier League leaders. Paul Rideout-s goal brought the victory to the outsiders against dominant United back in 1995. This time MU is a fav too, but Moyes expects that new Wembley will have an impact on his players, just like it was the case a little over a decade ago. Everton proved to be a very unpleasant side for the Northern-Western rivals this season. At Goodison Park they managed to get a draw, while they lost 1:0 at Old Trafford this season. None of these matches proved that they’re a weaker side than Manchester. A match at Goodison was highlighted by the 2nd half when the hosts displayed a much disciplined game, and gave a really hard time to the champs. Moyes is hoping his team will not repeat the shameful performances they put up against Aston Villa. England’s national team players Joleon Lescot and Phill Jagielka will have to play almost a perfect game in order to stop dangerous United’s attackers. Moyes needs to decide whether he will include Louis Saha into the starting lineup, as he is recovering from the stomach virus. Scottish manager won’t be able to count on Jo, who is suspended, as well as injured Anichebe, Arteta, Yakubu and Valente.

United is going to the trophy

After a win last Wednesday night, a winning machinery of Manchester United has gotten back on the right track. Everton will give their best in order to reach the finals, but without Mikel Arteta it will be very difficult to open up United’s defense. A very hard match for both sides is expected, and United will most probably win but for those that like to bet on a more safe option – an under 2.5 is my other advice.
