Croatian tennis player Ivo Karlovic, has recorded his best result at Wimbledon so far this year. He will be facing the tennis “king” Federer in the quarterfinals, against whom his serve can be the only chance. And really, when all his results are taking into account, it can be seen that the serve is his only weapon. He wins almost all sets by winning in tie breaks, but truth to be told, there have been a few sets when he managed to break his already tired opponent. Therefore, he is currently one of the toughest players on the tour to break, due to his powerful and unreachable serve, which is surely the best in the world at the moment. In the last two rounds he faced a few really good players, firstly defeating Tsonga by 3:1 in sets (7:6, 6:7, 7:5, 7:6), then defeated Spanish Verdasco by a similar scoreline (7:6, 6:7, 6:3, 7:6). You can conclude by yourself that nobody “has the right” to take his service games away, as he is simply killing his rivals with the serves. With all due respect to the Croatian player who achieved really a lot reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, he doesn’t have that much quality to be able to face the Swiss master – Roger Federer. He is only winning due to terrific and extremely strong serves, but he won’t keep slipping through until forever, especially not against the best players in the world.
Federer has a very nice opportunity of getting back to the top of the ATP list. If he manages to win Wimbledon for the 6th time in his career, he will again become the world number one. His biggest rival, Rafa Nadal, has withdrawn from Wimbledon due to a knee injury, so he will lose a significant portion of his points. Nevertheless, Federer won’t have an easy time getting his 6th title, as the obstacles on his way to the trophy will primarily be the host player Murray, then the Serb Djokovic, and a very dangerous Roddick (playing Hewitt being a big fav). In his previous matches at this Wimby, he easily defeated all of his rivals, losing the only set against German Kohschreiber. It can’t be said Federer had an easy draw, even though the results might not prove it. Firstly he faced unpleasant Lu (7:5, 6:3, 6:2), then defeated in-form Garcia Lopez (6:2, 6:2, 6:4), as I’ve already said he dropped his only set in the match against Kohlschreiber (6:3, 6:2, 6:7, 6:1) and in his last clash, he faced the Swede Soderling, who was also his opponent in the recently played RG finals. He had a tough task but once the match started it turned out that Soderling didn’t have the guts to play hard on the important points so Fedex celebrated in straight sets (6:4, 7:6, 7:6). Counting his clay-court wins, the Swiss recorded some 17 consecutive wins, suffering his last defeat to Djokovic in Roma semifinals, losing 2:1 in sets. He is aware that by winning the title at Wimbledon, where he’s been dominating recently, he would ensure the number one spot but he doesn’t want to go think about the title just yet, has two more tough obstacles before it, out of which the first one is in the like of Croatian giant Karlovic.
Almost nobody knew how to defeat the Croat Karlovic due to his powerful and demolishing serve. However, now Ivo will face the great tennis king – Roger Federer, who is well-aware of the Croat’s serve and knows how to tame it, and break him a few times. As far as the final outcome is concerned, the odds are very low but there’re no doubts about who will advance to the semifinals. That will be the Swiss player, who is almost two classes above his rival in this match. With all due respect to Karlovic, I expect a comfortable Federer’s win in straight sets.
