Match preview: Olympiacos - Partizan 2010-05-07 (Euroleague)

High-rollers

Olympiacos is one of the teams that surely spent the most money out of all European clubs before the start of this season, and so far it has paid off big time. They finally won the Greek Cup, and have so far achieved the goals of qualifying to EL final four, while they`re marching towards the clash against PAO in the domestic league playoffs. Their budget is really huge, with Childress only being paid over 5m euros a year, and they have great players at all positions. Kleiza is one of the biggest candidates for the EL`s MVP award this season, and a guy they rely on the most. No surprise, as he can do anything on the court with his terrific talent and amazing physical abilities. Childress is a guy who improved his shot a lot recently, while his main weapon and are fast-breaks and points from transition, where he is just lethal. What to say about one of the most dominant centers in Europe, Baby Shaq? Schortsianitis has lost a bit of weight, which only made him more mobile on the court, not losing any of his power at the same time. He naturally shoots poorly from the distance (also bad from the FT line with around 50%), but is unstoppable underneath the basket. He is the driving force of this team, and their team play totally changes with him on the court. Therefore, his game can be very costly as well in case he doesn`t start out well, gets in a foul trouble, or gets blocked a few times early on. Teodosic is currently maybe the best point guard in Europe, and even his teammates admitted it. His ability to find his teammates on the court is just outstanding, his vision and court sense is something that can make the difference on the floor. Papaloukas` experience of playing at 8 consecutive final fours, can also be something crucial for Olympiacos here. I could go on about their other players, as almost every single one of them has a lot of qualities I could talk about here. But, I will just end this with my opinion about their coach Giannakis. He isn`t that great of a coach as he was as a player. And the coaching can actually turn out to be the most important factor in this match. bet now

Black and white miracle

Partizan Belgrade has been surprising world basketball public for years. Although they are a club with great tradition, a team that participated in the first official EL final four in 1988, and a club that produced so many great players, out of which many even played in the NBA and the best European teams, they still struggled big time to record some major success and put themselves back on the European map again, mainly due to the lack of finance and basic conditions. However, since taking over, their coach Vujosevic has managed to win 8 consecutive domestic league titles, many domestic cups and 4 consecutive NLB leagues, out of which most of you surely still remember the one won about two weeks ago - when Partizan scored a three-pointer with less than one second to go in the game, from their own half, which gave them a win. What decorates this team is their team spirit. They have a rock-solid discipline, and thanks to Vujosevic, all of them are very good friends and get along really well, both on and off the court. He always insists that they should be a team, not just a group of individuals, and the bonds they made in practices, is a reason why they`re so mentally tough and able to win close matches. Their defense is something spectacular. A classic European style of defending, with often switching from zone to man, usually when the opponent expects it the least. The best example for that is the last Cibona`s possesion in the regular time of NLB league finals, when Partizan suddenly started playing zone defense, confusing Cibona`s players totally. Same thing happened in the game they`ve won against Barcelona at home. With their hard work, small salaries, and a lot of heart and spirit, they surely stand out as a positive exception out of the 4 teams playing at this final four, an exception proving that money can`t always buy everything. online betting

A match where everything is possible

Olympiakos and Partizan are two very different teams. Olympiakos has money, a lot of it, and Partizan lacks that the most out of everything. Olympiakos has a rich team, whose one player costs as much as the entire Partizan`s team+coaches. Olympiakos has recorded a lot more success than Partizan in EL recently. Olympiakos will have more fans at this match, out of which many see their team in the finals already. But I am not saying even one of their fans believes this match will be easy. And it surely won`t. I bet it will be much more interesting and exciting than the one between Barcelona and CSKA Moscow. Olympiakos is always playing run and gun basketball, but since this is EL final four, I think they will have to slow down, as playing such fast-tempo can be very risky. If it doesn`t go well, your opponent might punish you and then you have no time to correct your mistakes. It`s just one game and you`re out. That`s why I think they will play a bit slower, and positional, which should again suit Partizan, who normally plays that way. Matchup-wise, I think Partizan will have the biggest problems with Kleiza, while Olympiakos might find it really hard to stop Bo McCalebb. Both teams recorded a win each at home in their only two clashes of the season. Olympiakos` players have the advantage due to better individual quality, more experience as they played last year at the F4, and the logistics. They do, however, basically have to win this game. The pressure is on them. On the other side, Partizan is arriving to Paris with no pressure, they will have less fans, who`ve been their main generator this and in every previous season, but they proved many times they can play the best basketball against good teams, and on the road. Their main advantage is the fact they`ve played many competitive games lately, while Olympiacos hasn`t played a serious game for about 2 months, and their real form is a question mark. Under such circumstances and given everything said above, I expect a very close game, a huge fight on the floor and a nervous game, which could be easily decided in one tight finish so these 8 points given to Partizan should be just too much for every reasonable bettor. I earned a lot of money backing Partizan as underdogs this season, it will not be any different in one of their most important games in the last 10 years. Best of luck! bet online
