Christophe Rochus is pretty-much done with playing serious tennis, and this 31-year old guy is currently in a very poor competitive shape, competing mostly at challengers which perfectly suits his 140th spot in the ATP rankings. Rochus claims he plays best tennis on clay, but I personally never saw him play good tennis. He is one very limited player, who has very little to show except some fighting spirit, which he uses in order to try and make up for the other lack of qualities in his game, and that rarely helps him much. He`s been playing on clay for quite a while now, mostly on challengers, so he really played a lot of matches on this surface, but I don`t see that being some big advantage for him here as he played only against some really weak players in the previous tournaments, even managing to lose to players such as Brands, Volandri or Ilhan with no problem. John Isner is constantly improving in the ATP rankings and has entered top 20 after managing to enter his first clay-court final at the Belgrade tournie last week, which he barely lost to his great friend and countryman Querrey. He played a really great tournament, while before that he did decent in the Rome Masters, losing to solid clay-courter Bellucci in the 2nd round in 2 tight sets. In Belgrade he showed some terrific fighting spirit and the support he was getting from the crowd was maybe even cruical for beating Gasquet after coming back from a set down in that match. On his way to the finals, he even beat Wawrinka in 2 seta, showing a lot of focus and his serve clicked really well. In the finals he played great until 5-4 in the 2nd set, when he wasted a MP on his serve, after which everything went downhills and he lost the energy to keep it up at the tempo he was playing at in the beginning. Isner to win with no problems

This time last year, John Isner still didn`t really know what clay is, and he played his matches on American clay-court challengers. This year he improved his game so much that playing on clay has almost no impact on his serve and one of the most interesting things he developed perfectly for this surface is his drop shot, which worked like a clock in Belgrade last week. Right now, we have two guys in totally opposite directions. Rochus does like playing on clay, but is in horrible shape and near the end of his career. John Isner just played some of his best tennis on clay last week, and with his form constantly improving, he is rightfully a huge favorite against demoralized Rochus. Isner won their only meeting played last year on hard in 2 easy sets. I think we could see a replay of that match here no matter the surface, so Isner to win in 2 is my choice for some medium stakes.
